This is the story of new beginnings and hope. The story of a mom-to-be who showed Herculean strength through 2 tremendous days of labor; and the story of a dedicated doula and midwife whom, along with an incredible mom, taught me the true definition of the word ‘strong.’ It’s the story of a baby born exactly one year (to the day) after the death of her grandfather. This is the story of Emme. Her story is powerful and hopeful, inspiring and beautiful.

I got to the hospital at 4:30 am (that’s dedication!) to begin her birth story. I witnessed such power, devotion, love and support, and a mom who never once uttered the words ‘I can’t.’ 16 hours later a decision had been made to operate. While I wanted nothing more than to document her birth, see her first cry, capture the depth of emotion in that incredible moment, it was not meant to be. As they were whisked into the operating room I began my wait with two anxious and excited soon-to-be-grandmas. I watched their faces as the first photo was emailed from the operating room, together we cried out of joy and relief.

Emme, your birth story is as much about your mom’s strength and your dad’s devotion as it is about your entrance. Welcome to the world little one. May you always know love like you had on this day.
