I couldn’t be happier that one-year cake smashes and first birthday photo sessions have been the trend for a while now. While some people may say these are a little extravagant, and babies won’t remember their first birthday anyway – I say, “No way!”

After all, remembering the theme and type of cake is not really what it’s all about. This time of early childhood is oh, so precious. You blink, and they’ve grown a foot and think they’re too old for cuddles! So, it makes perfect sense to go all out, embrace the moment, and document it every way you can. These are the kinds of photos you’ll treasure forever.

Cherishing the Moments & Remembering the Love

And, although your little one may not technically remember the actual cake smash or party, they will remember the love. You’re building a foundation of love, trust, and happiness for them, and this is part of it! Why not go big in celebration! Your little one’s giggles and excitement over their very first birthday cake are well worth it.

All that to say, I was so excited when handsome little Chase’s parents contacted me about doing a one-year birthday cake smash session. They requested a simple setup  of greenery that coordinated with his jungle themed birthday party, and I couldn’t love this set any more! While I love creating elaborate sets, I personally think simpler is often better, so the focus can be on your sweet baby. 

Speaking of sweet – Chase loved his cake fromZadies Bake Shopin Fair Lawn, NJ. Look at how he just dove in head first! I couldn’t help but giggle at his enthusiasm. And his parents were right: this little one didn’t need too many props. He has a big personality to show off, and he was the cutest focal point for these images. Even when the cake eating was over, he still gave me some smiles – and a few smirks – in the bubble bath cleanup portion of the session.

All in all, we had a great time celebrating Chase. Happy birthday, baby boy!
