Ok guys, today I’m bringing you one of our local gems, Garden State Jewelers. It’s not often that I talk about a product or business in this space, so when I do you know it’s really good. Here’s the backstory: my engagement ring was lost/stolen in September. I’ve been heartbroken over it as you probably understand and was sad every day that I looked at my hand. I loved that ring and while I knew I could never get it back I hoped I could find a replacement that could somewhat make up for it.

I walked into Garden State Jewelers and was blown away. Their jewelry is gorgeous, and the service is second to none. Owners (and brothers) Jonah and Ryan are two of the nicest guys around. They really listened to what I wanted and were able to take my description of my original ring and make me a new one that’s almost identical – with a little modern tweak of a halo setting. The pear shape has always been my favorite, and 15 years later it’s still the ring I’d choose.

My dad was a jeweler and I spend a lot of time behind the counter of his jewelry store playing dress-up a little girl, so hanging out in this store is a bit nostalgic for me. So don’t worry guys, I’ll be back!

Not only do they have incredible inventory of rings, necklaces, bracelets, and earrings as well as a baby jewelry line and gifts for kids (bat mitzvah gifts!) they can design anything you want. Have an idea in your head? See something in a magazine? They can make it even better.  So if you’re in my area you must run – do not walk – to Garden State Jewelers. And get this, if you tell them that Stefanie sent you they’ll take 10% off your TOTAL bill through the end of April!

Here’s a bit about the process, which I find fascinating. First they generate a 3D picture and then use a 3d printer to create a wax mold. This wax mold is exactly what the ring will look like, but now they need a ‘negative impression’ to create the actual ring. Next they pourr liquid silicone over the wax mold and then they heat up and pour the gold in to create the ring. It’s then placed in a tumbler filled with stainless steel shot and water which makes it shiny and polished. Next comes the pre- polish in order to remove any excess gold or sharp pieces and clean out the setting to enable the stones to be set. Diamonds are meticulously matched in order to maintain a consistent color and clarity throughout the ring, and each stone is set by an expert setter to ensure they are set straight and evenly. Last comes the final polish and plating, and with white gold and silver they always end with a rhodium finish to give it an extra sparkle and shine.

Long process, but the end result is incredible.
