This newborn session was one that I will never forget. Through a most serendipitous email, I found friends in a Japanese family who had very recently moved to the US. Despite a little bit of a language barrier, we clicked immediately. I felt drawn in, wanting to get to know them more.

Seven Short Days Old

Their brand-new son, Yuan, came to me at seven days old. His family moved here, traveling for hours, when his mom was 8 months pregnant. At one point in the newborn session, his mom paused and smiled at me with tears in her eyes. Through broken English, she said that having a family newborn session with me was a dream come true. So then both of us cried! She felt like a long-lost friend.

Yuan’s big sister Yuri is five. I love how children are so animated and transparent. Yuri doesn’t speak English, but love has no language, and she was so proud to hug and love her new baby. I could tell that she was almost as excited as her parents for this moment—a time for them to rest from their journey and revel in this sweet moment as a family. I am so glad that they will have pictures to document this special season in their lives and see how far they have come.

They requested a neutral earth-tone session, which happens to be my favorite. I love the timeless, classic images that we created. With soft undertones, the family’s faces, features, and personalities are highlighted in the photos, perfect for documenting priceless moments. I truly loved spending time with this beautiful family.
