This extraordinary session gave me serious baby fever. This sweet family came to me from Manhattan when baby Sam was just hours shy of 4 days old! In fact, he was so new he didn’t have a name yet at our session! I can probably count the number of times I’ve seen a baby that new! Typically, newborn sessions happen between 5-15 days old, but Sam’s family wanted to capture the precious time right after bringing him home, and I’m so grateful they did. 

A Neutral Approach

I loved watching them “ooh” and “aah” over our setups and over their adorable new miracle. The adoring fascination on their faces was so genuine and beautiful to see. I loved their connection as a family and how protective Dad was over his wife and baby. My heart was so full just watching them! 

The session was set up based on Mom’s preference for neutrals and brown/tan tones. I love these colors because they’re so warm and comforting, perfect for a newborn. Plus, it allows me to highlight baby’s features without distracting backgrounds—perfect portraits to hang in a nursery or decorate the walls.

But, we still had a little fun with some props…because how could you not?! In chatting with them, I learned that dad is a huge Harry Potter fan, and I knew what I had to do 🙂
